Free ATS Resume Checker: Check What Your File Actually Says
A resume can look clear while its extracted text puts dates beside the wrong employer or misses contact details stored in a Word header. HugPDF ATS Checker helps you inspect that text and review formatting signals locally, before sending your CV. It does not reproduce an employer’s ATS or predict a hiring decision.
What this ATS resume checker can check
An applicant tracking system helps employers manage applications. Resume parsing may extract document contents into candidate fields, but readable text is only one part of a complete application. HugPDF checks extractable text, patterns for contact information and recognized section headings. It can flag PDF reading-order concerns and DOCX tables, columns, text boxes and headers for review. These are approximate signals, not exhaustive layout detection.
Check a PDF or Word resume in three steps
- Open the checker and select one PDF or DOCX, or paste text. Try the fictional sample first.
- Run the check and compare the extracted preview with your original. Check names, contacts, dates and the sequence of experience entries.
- Fix the source document, export again and rerun the check. Download the checklist if useful and follow the employer’s requested format.
The checker accepts a file up to 50 MB, with a maximum of 20 PDF pages, or pasted text up to 40,000 characters. These are tool admission limits, not recommended resume sizes or employer portal limits. Use an unlocked PDF that you are authorized to access.
What does the percentage mean?
The percentage is passed automated readability checks divided by available automated checks, rounded to a whole number. For illustration only, seven passed checks out of ten produce 70%. That is not a tested resume result or an acceptance probability. Manual checks, unavailable checks and optional experience/project headings are excluded. Different input formats expose different checks; their percentages are not a standardized cross-format benchmark.
If extractable text is insufficient, no percentage may be available. Even 100% means only that the included checks passed. It does not validate your contact information, experience, qualifications or job relevance.
Review Arabic and mixed-language resumes
Compare names, Arabic letters, English phrases, dates and phone numbers against the original. Check that each role stays connected to the correct employer and dates. A missing recognized heading can reflect different wording, not missing experience. Squares or missing characters may indicate incomplete PDF text mapping; changing a preview font cannot restore text that was never extracted.
ATS Checker does not run OCR automatically. For a scanned resume, export selectable text from the source if possible, or try local PDF OCR and verify the recognized words and numbers. Recognition can be wrong.
Fix real issues before adding keywords
If columns mix the reading sequence, try a single-column copy. If contact information appears only in a separate Word header, move it into the document body and review the new output. Greenhouse’s own parsing guidance identifies tables, headers and columns among possible parsing difficulties. That is product-specific guidance, not proof that every ATS behaves identically.
After checking readability, use resume and job comparison to review evidence for requirements you confirm. Include Excel only if you can explain work you actually performed with it. Do not use hidden text, invented qualifications or repeated terms to chase a score. The checker’s transfer button sends text locally to the comparison tool only when you choose it; it does not rewrite your resume.
Check your CV without uploading document contents
Document reading and analysis happen in your browser, with no automatic resume-content saving. Page resources and libraries still need to load. Local document processing is not a claim that the entire website makes zero network requests. Use the local-processing verification guide with a disposable file.
Before you apply
Review the entire text, confirm your contact details and follow the requested format and size limit. To rebuild a clear document, see the PDF and Word resume guide and resume builder. Organize only the requested certificates and attachments with the job application checklist.
ATS resume check questions
Is the ATS resume checker free?
Yes. HugPDF’s checker is free and requires no account. It reviews text extraction and readability signals locally, without employer ATS certification.
Does 100% mean my resume will be accepted?
No. It summarizes included automated checks, not a hiring decision or the quality of your experience.
Can it check Arabic resumes?
Yes. Review Arabic text and recognized section headings, and manually verify names, numbers and reading order.
Should I use PDF or Word?
Follow the employer’s instructions. The checker supports PDF and DOCX, but available checks differ by format.
Why is my scanned resume missing text?
Scanned pages may be images. The checker does not run OCR automatically; use a text-based source or OCR and verify its output.
How should I improve the percentage?
Fix genuine text and reading-order issues, export again and recheck. Do not add unsupported claims or repeated keywords just to raise it.
